The good thing is, style points don't matter and Monday night was another example, as the Jayhawks took down the West Virginia Mountaineers 61-56 Monday night, in a slugfest that marked the first meeting between the two programs.

The game featured 45 fouls and 49 free throws between the two teams. Kansas shot 34, only making 18 of them.

They also committed 16 turnovers, which allowed the Mountaineers back in the game in the second half, trimming a 15-point deficit to just one halfway through the half. The Jayhawks also only dished out 12 assists.

Senior center Jeff Withey led the Jayhawks with 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Forward Travis Releford also scored 15, while bringing down four rebounds. Guard Ben McLemore chipped in 13 points, including six of eight from the free throw line.

Both the Jayhawks and Mountaineers (9-11, 2-5) made 20 of their field goal attempts. The difference was Kansas only shot 37 field goals to 54 for West Virginia.

Kansas did outrebound West Virginia 34-25.

The Jayhawks will go for win number 20 on the season and their 19th consecutive, Saturday afternoon at 3:00 when they host Travis Ford's Oklahoma State Cowboys in Allen Fieldhouse.
