Three Sooners could return to action in 2013

OU wide receiver Jaz Reynolds could return in 2013

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooner head coach Bob Stoops met with the media Friday to officially wrap up the 2012-13 season, and he shed some light on three suspended players that are still on the roster and could return to the field next season.

Another suspended player, on the other hand, will not.

Wide receiver Jaz Reynolds and defensive backs Trey Franks and Quentin Hayes have another chance.

"Don't have much room for error," Stoops said about his potential returning trio.

Defensive back Joe Powell, in contrast, has been dismissed.

"He's not here," Stoops said."

Not at all?

"No," Stoops replied.

As Stoops stated, the three will be on thin ice when they return, but co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell has already given indication Reynolds could make a big impact in 2013 with Kenny Stills declaring for the NFL Draft and Justin Brown graduating.

"I don't think there's any question he has a chance," Norvell said. "And Jaz is a very experienced guy and we tell guys all the time—I love the greatest thing is when a kid comes and says, ‘Coach, I just need a chance.' Well, we get a chance every single day when we come over here to practice. If you do the things we ask you to do, if you compete and make things happen, you'll get your opportunities on the field."

However, Stoops was quick to caution he'll have to take care of business outside the lines first.

"Possibly," Stoops said. "But, you know, he'll determine that by how his work ethic, his actions off the field, all of those kinds of things. So he'll have a chance to, but it's fair to say it won't be real easy."

For now at least, though, Franks, Hayes and Reynolds have a second chance; Powell does not.
