Bond brings the heat

While helping lead his team to a 5-5 record, Sierra LB/DE Devante Bond (6-3, 230) put up some ridiculous numbers and recently updated JCFootball.com on which schools have extended offers as well as which Big 12 school will get a visit from him in the very near future...

"Things went pretty well this season," Bond told JCFootball.com. "We played pretty well and I had a pretty good season individually, but I think we could have won a few more games honestly, so my stats really didn't matter as much as if we had gotten more wins."

The Wolverine coaching staff used Bond in a number of ways and on both sides of the formation, but his specialty was getting after the quarterback -- evidenced by his 17 sacks.

"I was mostly a stand-up pass-rusher for us, but I also dropped back into coverage a lot," Bond noted. "I was a much more complete linebacker than people gave me credit for because I feel like I can play the run or pass, but if you asked me what I do the best, I love to get after the quarterback."

In addition to his 17 sacks, Bond also posted 74 tackles, 26 tackles-for-loss, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Bond currently holds five offers and has plans to visit a few other schools, although he only has one firm date set.

"My five offers right now are Washington State, UNLV, Utah State, Fresno State and Kentucky," Bond said. "I'm visiting West Virginia on December 1st and I'm working on setting up visits to Miami and Maryland. None of those three have offered yet, but they said they are close and if I visit, I will probably get one, but right now, none of those three have offered yet."

Bond played his high school football at Foothill (Sacramento, Ca.) and was unable to qualify, so he decided to join Sierra to get his academics in order as well as get ready for the next level.

"The coaches here at Sierra were great and I felt like they would get me ready to go," Bond said.

He is on pace to graduate in May and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
