Beavers look good for former SEC pledge

DB Steve Nelson

Visalia (Calif.) College of The Sequoias defensive back Steven Nelson has been a Georgia commit since last January but it sounds like the athlete could be close to staying out West.

Steven Nelson is originally from Georgia and it was no surprise when he jumped on an offer from the Dawgs almost a year ago. He decided to still take his official visits and checked out Oregon State in early October. The visit made a big impression and the Beavers sound like they could be close to landing the talented corner prospect.

"I just de-committed from Georgia and I'm leaning to Oregon State right now," Nelson said. "I could make a commitment pretty soon but I'm just waiting on the right time. I still have one more visit set up, I'm scheduled to visit Houston (Dec. 14) but I don't know if I'll be taking it, I feel pretty set with what I want to do at this point."

Nelson said Oregon State has everything he's looking for in a school and is a great overall fit.

"I'm real close with the DB coach Rod Perry," Nelson said. "The coaches have been real honest with me from day one and I really feel like I can trust them. Coach Perry is a former NFL coach and he knows what it takes to get to that next level and that's my dream.

"I also like Coach Riley a lot and just felt a real sense of family on campus. I like the team a lot and their style of play. They have a nice program and Corvallis is a cool college town. The comfort level I felt there combined with my relationship with the coaches really put them on top for me. I'm not ready to commit just yet, I want to wait until I'm 100% good but I'm real close and I've pretty much decided in my head that it's Oregon State for me."
