The 6-foot-5, 238-pound true freshman recorded his first career start in this year's home opener against Florida A&M but has yet to record his first career reception.
He also played in the season opener at UTEP after battling for the starting position with Brannon Green and converted defensive end Geneo Grissom.
In the end, Green has won the majority of playing time, catching three passes for 45 yards and a touchdown and seeing action in all seven games.
As for McNamara, he'll be eligible for a medical redshirt and set to return in 2013 with all four years of eligibility.
