Player: Aaron Colvin
Hometown: Owasso, Okla.
Height & Weight: 6-foot, 181 pounds
Likely position on fall depth chart: Starting corner
The rundown: Colvin makes the switch from starting strong safety to starting cornerback with the shift of Tony Jefferson from nickel to free safety and OU’s lack of depth at the position. He started 12 games in 2011, tying for the team-lead with 84 tackles. On top of that, the DB who has played 26 games in two seasons recorded six pass breakups, 4.5 tackles for loss, including a half sack and two fumble recoveries. He’s now managed 118 total tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss in his first two seasons in a Crimson and Cream uniform.
Expectations for 2012: Colvin should really help solidify the corner position in OU’s five defensive back set under new and returning defensive coordinator Mike Stoops. Expect him to have a pick or two this year with a lot of tackles once again. He’s one of just many talented defensive backs in a league loaded with them.
