Lions select Lewis for trio of Sooners

OU linebacker Travis Lewis

Make it three Sooners heading to the Detroit Lions: linebacker Travis Lewis became the third with the 16th pick in the seventh and final round, 223rd overall.

He becomes the fifth Sooner defensive player taken in the 2012 NFL Draft and the seventh Sooner overall.

Lewis, who recorded 100 or more tackles in three of his four seasons at OU, led the team in tackles every year of his career.

He finished with 89 in 2011 after racking up 109 in both 2009 and 2010 and setting a freshman record with 144 stops back in 2008.

Last season, the 6-foot-2, 227-pounder also netted 12 pass break ups, six tackles for loss, including a pair of sacks, a pair of forced fumbles and an interception.

Lewis earned second team All-Big 12 honors by both the AP and coaches.

His 446 career tackles ranks third on the all-time OU list.
