New No. 1

RB Keith Ford

NORMAN, Okla. — The biggest news yet out of OU's second Junior Day has come in the form of the Sooners finally landing a commitment for their 2013 class.

Running back Keith Ford has given his verbal to OU, securing the first commit, Cypress (Texas) Ranch HS head coach Gene Johnson confirmed to Sooners Illustrated Saturday.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound back elected to choose the Sooners over other offers such as Baylor, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA and Utah.

Ford, who has great power and runs with a purpose, also possesses impressive speed and footwork.

His commitment provides a deep sigh of relief for Sooner Nation after going through the first set of Junior Days commit-less.

It also starts OU's class of with a powerful punch.

The four-star back is one of the top prospects out of the state of Texas and a huge get.

For the first time in eight recruiting seasons, the Sooners were yet to snag a verbal prior to March 1, but the last time they did not do so, they were able to haul in the nation's No. 7 class, eventually including another very talented Texas back by the name of Adrian Peterson.

Stay tuned to see if Ford kickstarts yet another recruiting class like that.
