NORMAN, Okla. — Punter Tress Way has placed 61 percent of his punts inside the 20, and he talks…
Bedlam Report Card
Landry Jones: F For the third consecutive game, he failed to throw a touchdown pass. But more concerning than that, Jones threw a pair of picks and fumbled twice for four turnovers. Oklahoma State returned one fumble for a touchdown and the other 59 yards down to the 1-yard line. Jones, in his poor performance, was 27-for-50 with 250 yards. Shutting down the run: F Forget about Oklahoma State's passing game. It was their run game that torched the Sooners for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Joseph Randle sprinted for 151 yards and two of those touchdowns, while Jeremy Smith managed 119 yards and the other two scores. The Sooner defensive tackle play was horrendous, and so was stopping it at the second level. Play calling: F The Cowboys possessed the 93rd ranked rushing defense in the country coming into the contest, and how did the Sooners try to attack it? They threw the ball 38 times in the first half, rushing just 10 times in the first 30 minutes. Co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel's decision to pass the ball that much really came back to bite. Frankly, it just didn't make any sense either. Effort: D- About the most fight this team showed occurred during a skirmish before the game. Head coach Bob Stoops and security had to pull back the Sooners from the Cowboys' tunnel at the West end of the stadium. Outside of that, though, OU didn't show much heart. It gave up after getting down early. The defense was especially disappointing in the second half, as it completely gave up. This is unacceptable in a rivalry game. Special teams: B Give punter Tress Way credit for not getting any punts blocked with all the pressure he had in his face on eight tries. Way averaged just 39.1 yards per punt, but placed two inside the 20, with a touchback. Place kicker Michael Hunnicutt might have had the most positive play of the night when he booted through a 48-yard field goal at the end of the first half.
