NORMAN, Okla. -- Jeff Capel has been fired as OU's head basketball coach, confirmed by sources Monday.

Capel was 96-69 in five seasons with the Sooners, including a 37-43 record in Big 12 Conference play.

In the past two years, though, it has been brutal, as OU has struggled to 13-18 and 14-18 seasons, the first back-to-back losing years since 1967.

On top of that, Capel has failed to make the postseason in three of his five years since being hired as Kelvin Sampson's replacement back in 2006.

Capel's two good years featured an Elite Eight run led by star forward Blake Griffin in which the Sooners finished 30-6 and the year before when they were 23-11 and ousted in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Stay tuned for the latest on these developments, and come into Sooner Magic Insider for all the discussion.
