Carter is 100% Committed

Last Friday Night Sooners Illustrated was able to make it out to see the Trinity Trojans take on the South Grand Prairie Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. Trinity pulled out a somewhat unspectacular victory, 36-16 thanks in part to the play of three-star prospect Brandon Carter. Afterwards, SI caught up with him for a quick interview.

All year long Brandon Carter has shown his versatility playing all over the field. Carter has lined up at wide receiver, quarterback, cornerback and returns kick offs and punts. Friday night Carter played quarterback the whole game for the Trojans, which turns out was his idea.

"I told coach all week since the last game to put me at quarterback and that would be the best thing for the team. At receiver they are double and triple teaming me so the quarterback can't get the ball to me. I told him it would be the best for the team and I will do whatever is best for the team,"

The SGP Warriors fought hard all game long and kept it close for most of the game but Carter on the night was just too much. Carter finished 3-6 passing for 26-yards and a six-yard touchdown pass to go along with 13-carries for 163-yards which included a 56-yard touchdown run on the Trojans first possession.

Trinity has been destroying opponents left and right all year long so a close game is just what the the Trojans needed according to Carter.

"It was good," Carter stated about getting the victory. "We needed a game like that. We have been winning like 45 to zero and just blowing out people. So it was a good game. They played their hearts out and I give it (respect) to them."

Last week rumors started to swirl that Carter may be set up to visit Arkansas this past Saturday to the see the Hogs take on Utep in what turned out to be a dominating performance for the Razorbacks. When asked about the rumor Carter ended all worries for the Sooner nation.

"No sir," Carter stated.

When it comes to visits Carter has been to Norman once this year but still hasn't taken his official.

"I visited earlier this year and had a good time but I got to take my official," Carter explained.

Carter talked about his relationship with Oklahoma defensive backs Coach Willie Martinez who handles the recruitment of Carter.

"Me and his relationship is good," Carter began. "We talk every week. He asks me about my family. That's the most important thing and that's why I like him so much is because he is worried about my family and he is worried about me. So, me and him have a good connection."

Carter's outstanding ability with the ball in his hand makes many people wonder if he will wind up on the offensive side of the ball when he gets to Norman. According to Carter, his future position coach isn't going to allow that.

"Nah," Carter said laughing when asked if he may play receiver at Oklahoma. "Coach Martinez is not going to allow it."

With National Signing Day around the corner and with all these rumors that keep coming up about Carter and his commitment to the Sooners, the Sooner nation need not worry when it comes to the talented playmaker.

"Yes sir," Carter said with a smile when asked if he is 100 percent committed to the Sooners.

Trinity will take on Allen this Saturday at 5:00 in a much anticipated match-up that features two of if not the best two 5A teams in the state of Texas.
